Oral Surgery

In some cases oral surgery may be required to diagnose or treat injuries and diseases affecting the patient’s mouth, teeth, gums, jaws and related facial structures. Many dental procedures performed in a general dental office are considered oral surgery. Here are some examples of oral surgery procedures.

Detection and Treatment of Diseases

This year alone, more than 30,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer, unfortunately resulting in 8,000 deaths. Our Dentists and Hygienists are trained to detect oral cancer, as the signs of this devastating disease typically go unnoticed.

It is important to know that early detection is key to addressing Oral Cancer and signs can be found in your mouth, face, neck or jaw. If you or your dentist notice something out of the ordinary please follow up right away. Oral surgery is commonly used to treat oral cancer.

The highly skilled oral surgeons at Shine Dental Associates perform these procedures to treat the problem and restore dental health, while striving to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing results with little-to-no downtime.

Extractions

The most recognized form of oral surgery are extractions. Teeth may be extracted because:

  • Teeth may be past the point of repair from root fractures or decay.
  • Wisdom teeth may be partially or fully impacted.
  • Orthodontic procedures may require the removal of teeth.
  • For children, baby teeth may fail to fall out before adult teeth grow in.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are becoming a common procedure to provide permanent solutions for missing teeth or to stabilize dentures for a more comfortable and stable daily wear.

Dental implants are placed by either a dentist or periodontist, and Shine Dental Associates can offer your same day teeth replacement if you are a candidate. After a short healing period, we will provide you with a custom crown restoration to perfect your smile.
