It is a residential community encompassing more than 4,500 acres, bordered on the West by The Village of Brookville on the East by the Village of Oyster Bay Cove, to the North by East Norwich and the Village of Upper Brookville. The population is 3,497 as of 2010. Muttontown was ranked one of the wealthiest towns in America. The name of the village stems from its former use as pasturage for sheep.
