Secondly, gum disease means that your mouth has very high levels of bacteria. However, if your mouth is filled with it, it is likely that other parts of your body are covered in bacteria as well. This of course includes one of your most important organs, your heart. Simply by being exposed to the bacteria in your mouth can easily cause it to spread and worsen your overall health.

The Link Between Gum Disease And Other Medical Conditions

In research done by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, gum disease is an important risk factor for diseases of the blood vessels and the arteries that supplies to the brain. So not only is your heart being put at risk, but also your brain as well. Many of those with gum disease had not only reported heart problems, but also had a higher chance of having a stroke in their lifetime.

So what can you do to keep your heart healthy?

Keep brushing!

It can be tempting to skip a brushing session or two when your teeth are looking white and healthy. However, missing  a session could really end up counting against you in the long run. With so many different types and flavors of toothpaste and floss out there, you’re bound to find one that is right for you.
