Once gingivitis has reached the level of being diagnosed as periodontal disease, very proactive and specific treatments need to take place to reduce the further risk of damage to the gums and teeth.
Non-surgical procedures are used to help maintain the treatment and to remove the build-up of plaque and bacteria in the pockets. One common treatment is called scaling and root planing, and it essentially goes deep beneath the gum line to remove all of the bacteria and debris.
