Invisalign Smile More for Less!

iStock_000009910842XSmallGum disease can cause your gums to bleed and become infected, swollen, or tender. As a result the infected gum starts to separate from the teeth and a pocket develops.

If left untreated this infection can spread to the bone and cause bone loss. Furthermore, this infection can not only result in losing your teeth, but can also spread to the rest of your body. Periodontal disease has been associated with heart disease, diabetes, premature births and a slew of other systemic health problems.

Sometimes crowding of teeth can be a contributing factor to gum disease. Crowding of teeth makes it difficult to remove all the plaque and tarter from the area. When inflamed gums (gingivitis) is not treated the infection will work its way down towards the bone causing the gums to separate from the tooth making a “periodontal pocket”.

It is difficult for patients to keep these types of pockets clean. Moving teeth whether it be from braces or Invisalign can make the teeth less crowded. Less plaque will lead to less inflammation and less chance of periodontal disease. Additional treatment may need to be done to obtain periodontal health.

Invisalign is an exciting new technology that straightens your teeth with a series of clear, customized, removable aligners. The aligner is a thin piece of medical grade plastic that fits over the teeth like a glove would fit on a hand.

Hardly anyone can tell you’re going through treatment and because the aligners are removable, you can eat whatever you want during treatment.

Many adults successfully use Invisalign to obtain the smile of their dreams. The typical patients that are being treated are:

  • Adult and adolescent patients who are doing orthodontics in preparation for some esthetic restorative work.
  • Adults who are in a field of work that demands esthetics, and can’t afford to have the wires and brackets putting a damper on their smile.
  • Teenagers who are in need of orthodontic care but don’t want the unsightly wires and brackets for junior high and high school photos, dances, etc.
  • Adults who have put their children through orthodontics, college, etc. and now would like to reward themselves with a nicer, straighter smile.

The minimum age for Invisalign depends on the patient. It can treat a vast majority of patients with fully-erupted molars. Usually this commonly occurs between the ages of twelve and fourteen. Some patients can be treated with a combination of braces and Invisalign. Talk with us about your interest in Invisalign and we can determine the appropriate treatment path for you.
